| Other names | Alpha subunit of eukaryotic translation initiation factor 3, also known as eIF-3-alpha, plays a crucial role in protein synthesis. It is encoded by the EIF3S1 gene and commonly referred to as eIF3 alpha or eIF3 p35. Another name for this subunit is eIF3j or EIF3J_HUMAN. Its molecular weight is approximately 35kD. Eukaryotic translation initiation factor 3 subunit 1 alpha, 35kD, or eIF3S1, is an essential component of the eukaryotic translation initiation complex. It functions in the assembly and stabilization of the initiation complex, necessary for the initiation of protein synthesis in eukaryotic cells. This subunit, along with other subunits of eIF-3, regulates the recruitment of ribosomes to the mRNA and facilitates the selection of the appropriate start codon for translation initiation. Understanding the role of eIF-3-alpha is fundamental in unraveling the intricate mechanisms of protein synthesis. As one of the vital components of eukaryotic translation initiation factor 3, it contributes to the efficient and accurate initiation of protein synthesis, ensuring proper cellular function and growth. |

| Specificity | The total EIF3J present in the body can be detected using the EIF3J Antibody. This antibody is capable of identifying levels of endogenous EIF3J. To create new content that is highly similar to the original, one can rearrange the existing text to convey the same message with different words and sentence structures. |

| Application | For the WB assay, the recommended dilution range is 1:1000-3000. In the case of IHC, a dilution of 1:200 is suggested. When it comes to IF/ICC, the recommended dilution range is 1:100-1:500. Lastly, for ELISA using peptide substrates, the recommended dilution range is 1:20000-1:40000. It is important to note that these dilutions are crucial for obtaining accurate and reliable results in each respective assay. |

Background | Component of the eukaryotic translation initiation factor 3 (eIF-3) complex, which is required for several steps in the initiation of protein synthesis (PubMed:25849773, PubMed:27462815). The eIF-3 complex associates with the 40S ribosome and facilitates the recruitment of eIF-1, eIF-1A, eIF-2:GTP:methionyl-tRNAi and eIF-5 to form the 43S pre-initiation complex (43S PIC). The eIF-3 complex stimulates mRNA recruitment to the 43S PIC and scanning of the mRNA for AUG recognition. The eIF-3 complex is also required for disassembly and recycling of post-termination ribosomal complexes and subsequently prevents premature joining of the 40S and 60S ribosomal subunits prior to initiation. The eIF-3 complex specifically targets and initiates translation of a subset of mRNAs involved in cell proliferation, including cell cycling, differentiation and apoptosis, and uses different modes of RNA stem-loop binding to exert either translational activation or repression (PubMed:25849773). |
| Posttranslational modification | Phosphorylated. Phosphorylation is enhanced upon serum stimulation. |
| Celluar localization | Cytosol; |
