Description	IL-6, a multifunctional cytokine, plays a crucial role in various biological processes. It is involved in the differentiation of B-cells into immunoglobulin-secreting cells and promotes the growth of myeloma and plasmacytoma. Additionally, IL-6 facilitates nerve cell differentiation and activates hepatocytes and mitogen-stimulated helper T cells. Activation of IL-6 leads to the initiation of three major signaling pathways, namely JAK/STAT, PI-3 kinase, and MAPK. Together, these pathways regulate diverse cellular responses mediated by IL-6.
Other names	IL-6, also known as interleukin BSF 2 or B cell differentiation factor, is a cytokine involved in B cell stimulation and differentiation. It is also referred to as B-cell stimulatory factor 2 or hepatocyte stimulatory factor. IL-6 is crucial for the growth of hybridoma cells and has been identified as a growth factor for hepatocytes. It shares similarities with interferon beta 2 and is sometimes referred to as IFN-beta-2. IL-6 plays a significant role in immune responses and inflammation.
