Description

IgG, or Immunoglobulin G, is an abundant protein found in human blood. In adults, normal levels range from 8-17 mg/mL. IgG is essential for our immune system to fight off harmful microorganisms. B cells produce IgG molecules as a part of adaptive immunity. These molecules have two functions: to bind to the pathogen and recruit other cells to destroy it. The diversity of the IgG pool is created by somatic recombination, which generates an estimated 1011 variations of antigen specificity in an individual at any given time.
